Aug 11, 08 thru Oct 26, 08
Deppea spendens ‘Augusten’–an extremely beautiful relative of coffee–is in bloom in Balboa Park’s historic Botanical Building. It is considered one of the most rare flowers in the world and is believed to be extinct in the wild.
This stunning evergreen shrub is native to forests of Mexico and Guatemala, and is now living only in cultivation from seeds saved from these areas.
Deppea s. is expected to bloom through Fall.
